The Race Around Rwanda is a single-stage, self-supported race around the country. The route is known to be hilly, consisting of about 20% gravel, with a total distance of 1,000km and an elevation gain of 17,000m. In February 2020, 65 people lined up at the starting line of what was to become an extraordinary adventure, a challenge through thunderstorms, muddy roads and never-ending hills, and everlasting memories. Every participant of this 1,000km bikepacking race has a story to tell. Tugende chronicles many of these important journeys.
