TAIPEI CYCLE 2018

Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA), the organiser of the 2018 Taipei International Cycle Show (TAIPEI CYCLE 2018), invited representatives from 22 trade media outlets to experience the dynamism of Taiwan bicycle industry in R&D and production, by visiting industry clusters surrounding Taiching and Tainan May 21 through 23.

They previewed new products on-site in 20 companies, including global industry leaders in complete cycles and cycle parts and components – Giant, Merida, Alex Global Technology, KMC, Kenda Tire and Cheng Shin Rubber, test riding their latest offerings for over 100 kilometres on different terrains.

In the press conference held May 24, Dr. Shuo Peng LIANG, Intelligence Manufacturing Technology Division, Intelligent Machinery Technology Center, the Institute of Industrial Technology, and Mr. Yu-Hsiun LEE, the founder of Hyena Inc., shared the transformation brought by integrating smart technologies into bicycle production and cycling.

From Internet of Things (IoT) to Big Data, digitisation transforms industries and daily lives.  Bicycles will become the most mobile means in smart cities for gathering environmental and traffic data, not just for transportation or recreation. Cycling may be shared on social media and rider safety may be monitored real-time, with smart upgrades via connected mobile devices and software. Taiwan’s bicycle industry is becoming even more efficient in manufacturing with Industry 4.0 process improvements.

TAIPEI CYCLE 2018 looks to propel the bicycle industry in Taiwan and globally into a new era, by systematically introducing intelligent applications into products and production processes.  Visitors will get a close-up view of innovation that incorporates intelligent technology in the Taipei Cycle plus in the Taipei World Trade Center (TWTC) Exhibition Hall 3, from October 31 to November 3.

From start-ups to new ventures of more established companies, including Bryton (GPS cycling computers), Shutter Precision (power generating hubs), MPS ENERGY (e-bike battery packs, ACER Group), these companies lead the way forward by bringing cycling and information hardware and software together.

International forums on e-bike market under the larger transportation framework, on digital marketing and on bicycle travel will be held in conjunction with TAIPEI CYCLE 2018.  Demo Day will return to the Hua Zhung Campsite one day before the show opens, on October 30.  Application for participation in the Demo Day is still open to exhibitors interested in offering visitors the opportunity to test ride.

In 2019, with the opening of TWTC Nangang Exhibition Hall 2, TAIPEI CYCLE will further expand to an estimate of 4500 booths.  For further information, please visit taipeicycle.com.tw.
