Mt Buller, and sister resort Mt Stirling, are gearing up for another fantastic summer with the world class trail network in pristine condition for season opening, and a jam-packed calendar of events and activities to suit all ages and interests ready to roll. Refreshed and reinvigorated after a busy winter, the resorts officially open for summer with the Big Bang Weekend on 1 – 2 December 2018.
Katie Bowker, Marketing Manager for Mt Buller Mt Stirling Resort Management, is thrilled to announce the launch, saying, “We can’t let the season opening go by without a celebration – and this year is set to be the biggest and best yet. Not only is our amazing bike store and shuttle operator All Terrain Cycles celebrating 10 years of operation we have a massive bike event in resort and all our trails open.”
There’s a tonne of fun for family and friends across the weekend, including horse rides and a guided hike on Mt Stirling and Air-fit, yoga, guided walks and runs on Mt Buller, culminating in an explosive firework show to light up the night sky.
The 120km world-class trail network will open for bikers, runners and walkers, ensuring some of the best riding in the country and the full shuttle service also begins, moving riders on both the gravity and XC trails.
The resort is also excited to be announcing the first ‘slopestyle’ competition the ATC Freeride Jam, that sees riders jam for qualification in a one-hour expression session, followed by ‘Best Trick’ and ‘Best Whip’ finals. This is the first of its kind for the mountain and is guaranteed to be awesome spectacle for competitors and guests alike.
Running across this massive weekend, the second leg of a three-stage series, the Shimano Enduro Asia Pacific Continental Series brings world-class riders converging on the mountain, endeavouring to earn points for entry into the global tour. Legends of the track Sam Hill, Josh Carlson and Rae Morrison will be making an appearance and setting the bar high for competition. This three-day event culminates in a great day of racing on Sunday, ideal for spectators to get amongst the action.
Kids are also catered for with Mt Buller’s newest year-round facility, the Buller Air Zone open on weekends in December and January. With Olympic standard equipment, this giant freestyle playground is suitable for all ages and abilities and is ideal for parties and functions.
Katie Bowker commented, “If your idea of a perfect getaway involves enjoying some physical activity in an incredibly beautiful natural landscape, and great entertainment combined with a good dose of relaxation, Mt Buller and Mt Stirling make the ideal holiday destinations this summer.”
There are a range of accommodation options available on Mt Buller including self-contained apartments, comfortable lodges and hostel style beds. Guests can visit the accommodation section of the Mt Buller website or call 1800 BULLER (285 537) to book.
