Easter in Melbourne is about to get huge with the 2015 Cycle Messenger World Championships kicking off from Thursday April 2nd and swallowing up the whole weekend plus some! With over forty registrations from overseas it promises to be a huge weekend of hard riding and partying.
The fun kicks off on Wednesday morning, a day early, with a gentle day’s riding through the countryside surrounding Melbourne. From there the schedule just gets busier with Time Trials, Skid Comps and qualifying races, not to mention a Swap Meet at Brunswick Velodrome on Friday April 3rd run by Fyxo’s Andy White and culminating in the Bespoke Chainrings opening party on Friday evening. Live music, drinks and gold sprints will ensure that everyone is warmed up for the official racing to kick off the next day.
Main Racing kicks off on Saturday and it is still possible to register should you be so inclined. Sunday things get serious with a closed circuit down at Docklands. It will be the perfect place to find a good spot and sit back with a beer and watch a hard day’s racing. Of course a hard day’s racing wouldn’t be complete without a party at the end and Sunday night’s party promises to be huge.
CMWC2015 will be partnering with City of Melbourne to transform the Docklands precinct into a bike hub for the duration of the Main Race. In addition to a centralised activity and entertainment area, the racecourse will utilise public spaces, footpaths, road and bike paths to activate the entire Docklands area and claim it as a bicycle zone. Over two days the Main Race course becomes a carnival of urban cycling featuring entertaining bike related side events, music and performance, workshops and demonstrations, food vans, beverage tents and a vendor market where spectators and competitors can purchase the latest messenger and cycling hardware.
Monday wraps things up with a Scavenger Hunt Ride open to everyone. You can check out all the details around all the activities over the five days online here.
