Knog wins the Victorian Premier’s Design Award of the year

Knog’s ground-breaking Oi bicycle bell has been awarded the 2016 Victorian Premier’s Design Award of the Year, the highest honour for design and innovation in the state.

Treadlie #19 features the revolutionary new take on the traditional bicycle bell and it’s exciting to see the design gain further recognition.

One of the main drivers for re-designing the bike bell was that in many countries, bikes are required by law to be sold with bells attached. These bells are often badly designed and are thrown away once purchased. The Oi Bike Bell offers bike owners a beautifully designed and highly desirable object that is a delight to use.

Minister of Creative Industries Martin Foley said, “These awards recognise Victorian designers and architects who go beyond the local to influence design thinking internationally. These finalists and winning projects are not only the best in Victoria, they are some of the best in the world, and reflect the diversity of design talent here in our creative state.”

Commenting on the overall winner, Celina Clarke, Chair of the Premier’s Design Awards Jury said: “The Oi Bike Bell demonstrates what good design can bring to an otherwise forgotten product.”

“The Oi Bike Bell exemplifies excellence in industrial design and brings together clever manufacturing, smart use of materials and a unique design aesthetic that sets it apart from other products in its class,” said Ms. Clarke.

The Oi Bike Bell beat nine other innovative projects selected as Best in Category Winners to take out the top award.
