There are approximately 71 million bicycles in Germany, and every year around 4 million units are sold within that country alone. And if that isn’t enough to convince you that the bicycle is big business, the annual Eurobike exhibition will this year be opened by German Chancellor Angela Merkel. Mobility, sustainable mobility, is a huge issue for cities around the world and the bicycle is increasingly on politicians’ radars as the means to achieve it.
Eurobike kicks off tonight, (Australian time) in Friedrichshafen, Germany, and offers shed after shed of bikes, more bikes, just a few more bikes and everything and anything that might go with bikes. In addition to the bikes there is a packed programme with expert discussions on the development of travel and bike tours, a Holiday by Bike expo, bike parcours, a lake jump, demo rides including e-bikes and endless networking and marketing opportunities for industry and public.
And not to be forgotten of course, the bike fashion. Is it just us or is Eurobike morphing into Eurovision? Check out the full program and follow updates online here.
