Velo-fringe Programme

It’s the news we’ve been waiting for! Adelaide’s newest community festival Velo‐fringe, to be held from 16‐ 31 May, has announced its program of over 25 bike events to be held across Adelaide metro and regional areas.

Run in conjunction with Velo‐city Global Adelaide 2014 international cycling conference, Velo‐Fringe promises to inject the bike biking fun into Adelaide for the duration of the festival and beyond!

Highlights include Velo in the Park – a fun family day out showcasing Victoria Park and featuring races, Pedal Prix, mountain & BMX displays and much more; a treadlie swap meet -­‐ for people to come swap and sell their unwanted bicycles and parts, The Heart Foundation’s lock in the LOVE art installation -­‐ V E L O and the Heart; and the Big Bike Ride Brekkie.

Open to the public and held on the morning of 28 May, The Big Bike Ride Brekkie will include presentations from conference speakers, a performance from Cirkidz and a warm, freshly cooked breakfast; before hundreds of cyclists take to the streets in a bike parade that will wind its way through the CBD, over the Adelaide Oval footbridge and finishing at the Adelaide Convention Centre.

Velo Fringe Event organiser Eugene Suleau, said that Velo-­‐fringe was an exciting opportunity to show the diversity of South Australia’s bike culture, saying “The assorted range of activities and events in the Velo-­‐fringe program, which are accessible to people of all riding interests and levels, is truly electrifying for South Australia and will bring a new sense of excitement to the streets of Adelaide in May.”

Co­‐director of Velo‐city Global, DPTI’s Mark Elford said, “Bike riding is an important part of the personal transport mix and Velo­‐fringe is helping to spread that message.”

The festival is open access, which means anyone can register to put on an event or activity, as long as it’s related in some way to bikes and bike riding. Events can still be registered.
