The full program for the Velo-city Global 2014 conference in Adelaide has been finalised.

Running from 27-30th May the conference is bringing experts on our cities and the mobility of the people who live in them from all over the world to Adelaide. Velo-city and Velo-city Global conferences are part of a series widely acclaimed to be the world’s premier cycle planning conferences – where hundreds of delegates from all over the world gather each year to share ideas, discuss innovation and learn more about how to create cities and places that embrace bike riding as part of daily transport.

The 2014 program promises a mix of  keynote speakers, concurrent session topics involving more than 170 presenters, social activities, tours and workshops. Keynote speakers include Janette Sadik-Khan (read all about her work in New York in Issue 14 of Treadlie magazine), Florian Lennart, Mikael Colville-Andersen and Bojun Borkman-Chiswell, just to name a few.

Bringing the Velo-city Global conference to Adelaide has been an important part of Mayor Steven Yarwood’s plan to transform the city into a city of cyclists. Velo-city Global Adelaide will build on the established narrative in its own special way. Adelaide is determined to be one of the world’s great small cities and becoming truly bike friendly is part of this journey. The conference will be accompanies by a two week long festival, Velo-fringe, (16-31 May) which will also ensure delegates get plenty of opportunities to delve into local bike culture.

Adam Spencer will be Master of Ceremonies throughout and Paul Herzich has been announced as Artist in Residence, providing a mirror for the duration of the conference, reflecting delegate’s experiences back at them daily in the exhibition area. The CPF Cycling Luminaries Award winners will be announced over the duration of the conference. Tours and workshops will get delegates outside of the conference building and out to see local initiatives.

On offer as part of the conference program are a number of bike tours that will enable delegates to experience some of what’s unique about Adelaide. Ride the Linear Park from the city to the beach along the River Torrens / Karra wirra-parri, or some of Adelaide’s Greenways – inspired by Copenhagen’s Green Cycle Routes. They are a combination of paths and quiet streets that provide a comfortable route for longer trips to and from the City.
