Urwahn presents 3D-printed high-end racing bike

With the start of the new year, Urwahn presents a high-end racing bike from a 3D printer. The technology pioneers have joined forces with the lightweight construction experts from Schmolke Carbon. “Together we have played out the potential of 3D-printing technology in our steel frame and combined it with performance-oriented carbon parts,” says product designer, Sebastian Meinecke.

The test rider is none other than track bike world champion, Stefan Botticher. The Velodrom test field quickly showed the effect of a combination of steel and carbon – a comfortable geometry with brute bottom bracket stiffness meeting aerodynamic lightweight construction.

For the coating of the steel frame, which is manufactured entirely in Germany, Urwahn relies on full copper plating. The elastic suspension of the rear wheel provides the rider with additional riding comfort without sacrificing bottom bracket stiffness. This comfort is especially useful on longer rides and/or uneven surfaces.

Both the handlebar and saddle unit are trimmed for lightweight construction. The 45mm Carbon Clincher on the other hand guarantees aerodynamic directional stability and runs very smoothly thanks to Tune’s high-quality hub mechanics. Shifting is wireless with a Force eTap AXS shifting group 1×12 compartment from SRAM. “This [creates] the feeling of operating the shift paddles of a sports car,” Sebastian continues.

This exotic road bike is a limited special edition for €8499.00 and is exclusively available at Urwahn Bikes and Schmolke.
