The Handmade Bicycle Show Australia is back and will be held at the stunning Meat Market in North Melbourne from 27-29 April 2018.
Visitors to the show will see many of the best handmade bicycles and accessories from around Australia, New Zealand and America, exhibiting a range of tried and tested old school building styles alongside cutting edge new-age techniques. Even wooden bikes will be exhibited.
Organisers of the show, Nathan Lorkin and Michael Hands from Corporate Cycling, believe Melbourne is its perfect home as the heart of cycling in Australia.
“With a diverse and growing cycling community in Melbourne, some amazing makers located here and a unique venue, we could not think of a better location for the show,” Michael Hands said.
Leading Australian frame builder, Darrell McCulloch of Llewelyn Bikes, has played a key part in inspiring the return of the show.
“Starting Llewellyn bikes in 1989 felt like going against the growing trend to mass-produced aluminium and carbon bikes,” McCulloch says. “So it is enormously satisfying to see the resurgence and recognition of the quality and personal approach of bespoke bikes. And better still to have a chance to celebrate that with so many builders and fans!”.
Iconic Melbourne-based builder Ewen Gellie is also a leader in bringing back the show, and extends an invitation to fans of bicycle craft, saying: “…Come and experience the roots of our renewed love affair with handmade bikes. The show is all about frame builders and their product, one-on-one.”
The Handmade Bicycle Show joins the likes of the North American Handmade Bike Show (NAHBS) and Bespoked in Bristol, UK as showcases of a global resurgence of premium bespoke bicycle makers catering to the global cycling culture.
