Seeing double

Bespoke Chainrings_Drillium_Chrome

We first wrote about Dan Reid and his beautiful bespoke chainrings back in Issue 9 of Treadlie Magazine. Dan has been busy working on his range and it has recently grown with his first two samples of his drillium double chainrings.

Both chainrings are made out of 7075 Alloy and are ramped and pinned for smooth, efficient gear changes. He’s already ridden several hundred kilometres on the chrome plated drillium and finds it a magnificent improvement on his Campy. Few people know that 7075 Alloy can be chrome plated. It’s not cheap, but it looks amazing!

Dan is making these available in 130 and 144 bcd, 53×39 teeth doubles, suitable for 10-speed and under. He will also be producing track chainrings in 48 teeth 1/8th profile. Dan has five engraved designs to choose from as well as blanks which will allow custom designs or logs to be added. The finish can be in either anodised black or chrome plated.

The chainrings are seen here on Dan’s 1980’s Italian Viner with polished Shimano 600 componentry, (excepting for the recent addition of Campy Delta brake callipers) and photographed by Brendan Timmons at Melbourne’s Montsalvat.

Dan expects these to be available in May/June. You can check out more of his work at Bespoke Chainrings and find all the details to get in touch with him to talk about these or any others from his range.
