Chinese Sydney by bike

ChineseNewYearBikeRide

Lions, lanterns and vermillion arches, these are just a few hints at Sydney’s Chinese past.Explore this fascinating history in the best possible way, by bike, on the Our Chinese Past By Bike tour.

Part of Sydney’s Chinese New Year Festival, the tour will start at The Rocks, the site of Sydney’s original Chinatown, pedal onto Campbell Street (Sydney’s second Chinatown, located in Haymarket) and then to Dixon Street, the present Chinatown.  You’ll enjoy a brief historical talk at each location and finish up at the beautiful Chinese Garden of Friendship, with tea, dim sum and free access to enjoy the sights for as long as you wish. Sydney has had a recognisable Chinese presence since 1848, when the Nimrod arrived in Sydney Harbour with 121 indentured Chinese labourers on board.

The tour starts at Bonza Bikes in The Rocks and is approximately 2 hours in duration.  Bikes and helmets are provided.  Please arrive 15 minutes prior to the start time.  There are three dates;

  • Wed 5 Feb 2014

and bookings are essential and cost $66 which includes refreshments at the Chinese garden. Check all the details and make your bookings here.
