Today the Cradle Coast Authority is sponsoring and hosting a special ideas forum – Not Just Riding a Bike – a conversation about encouraging increased participation in cycling as a means of dealing with sedentary lifestyles, tourism, product diversification and active transport.

Cycling is recognised as one of the best cost effective, easy and low impact activities that can significantly improve individual fitness and has the potential to have a major impact on public health. Cycling also has the added benefit of contributing to improved tourism, economy, recreation, active transport and environmental outcomes.

Community leaders and change makers in the region, with an active interest in cycling, are invited to the forum to work collegiately in order to identify and implement innovative and inspiring ways of improving participation in all forms of cycling in the North West.

The forum will be used to provide input into the development of a regional cycling experience strategy, which will be co-designed and co-produced in conjunction with the region’s community leaders and cycling community. The forum will be facilitated by the inimitable, Dr Colin Jones.

An important part of the forum will be to engage community leaders and change makers in the conversation before, during and after the event. The conversation will continue online using Made Open Tasmania, an innovative, fast and easy to use way to share knowledge and turn the ideas into action.

To get started, online challenge in, Made Open Tasmania, has been created. If you are interested in increasing participation in cycling activities across the region, get involved in the conversation now.

The forum is being held on June 8 as part Cradle Coast Innovation’s Idea16 sessions at the Gnomon Pavillion, Ulverstone Wharf Precinct.
